The condition of livestock operations in Manitoba has been making news steadily since feed prices increased dramatically. The biggest news this year has involved a pig barn near Austin, where more than one thousand weanlings were eithanized by the province. The manager of the barn has given interviews to the media, saying that the provincial vet''s office was in the wrong. He has claimed that conditions on the farm were not as bad as reported, and that there was a plan in place to euthanize the animals without interference from the province. There has also been much debate over the Vet''s Office decision to destroy the animals with a 22 caliber rifle. Bill spoke to Chief Veterinary Officer Wayne Lees about the controversial case.
